By James Alan Miller
Like the Touch, which is already available in Europe and expected to hit this country in the fall, the Vogue - as the CDMA Version is called - is based on HTC's TouchFLO technology for a more advanced touch-screen interface for fingertip control and screen navigation. If that sound familiar, it should: The fastet selling smartphone ever, Apple's iPhone leverages something similarApple's MultiTouch interface. According to an HTC confidentiality request to the FCC, certain details about Vogue are to be kept on the hush hush until the end of September. This is an indication the smartphone could be in end-user's around then, if not before. The Vogue is supposed to include many of the same features as Touch, plus a few more for good measure. For instance, while the GSM-based Touch tops out at GSM technology's 2.5G EDGE data transfer standard, Vogue is supposed to support CMDA carriers' (Verizon/Sprint) much faster 3G EV-DO Rev.A standard. It should also have a GPS radio, which the Touch lacks, and twice as much RAM128MB to the Touch's 64MB..
More on Touch/Vogue With TouchFLO, the device is supposed to be capable of recognizing and responding to the sweep of a finger across the screen, according to HTC. The smartphone is even supposed to be intelligent enough to distinguish between finger and stylus input. You sweep your fingers across the display to launch an animated, three-dimensional interface comprising three screens: Contacts, Media and Applications. The interface can be spun by swiping a finger right or left across the display, providing what appears to be easier access to these features for consumers than a normal Windows Mobile interface would. TouchFLO also delivers finger touch scrolling and browsing of Web pages, documents, messages and contact lists. As a Windows Mobile Professional device, the HTC Touch/Vogue will offer Outlook Mobile, Office Mobile for editing, the ability to read and edit native Word, Excel, and PowerPoint files, Pocket Internet Explorer and Windows Live. With it, you can view HTML-formatted e-mail and push e-mail in an Exchange environment. There's a 2 megapixel camera, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, 128MB of ROM and a microSD slot for extra storage. Its 2.8-inch display sports a 240 x 320 pixel (QVGA) resolution and supports 65,536 colors. The device measures 3.9 x 2.3 x 0.5 inches (99.9 x 58 x 13.9 millimeters) and weighs 3.9 ounces (112 grams). Related Links:
